So I salute all of our good eras....and right now we are in one.
This is exactly the point. I wish more people would share this perspective.
Something pretty damn special is happening right now. It's been happening for years. It doesn't have to blow away everything that's ever come before in order to be special.
As for what happens if we lose JJ... I'd like to see a lot of guys like Gillespie considered (like Quin Snyder or even Avery Johnson, who has a controlling approach that would work much better for college than pro basketball). But ultimately, I think that the programs that tend to build long, consistent legacies across multiple HCs without significant dropoffs along the way are those that are able to promote from within.
If it came down to hiring a guy like Gillespie vs. promoting Foy/Leonard (or even Forrest)... I don't think we'd be able to sell it to the fans if we passed on the big name with the home run potential.
But consistency is worth a lot. And if I recall correctly, Foy and/or Leonard have JC championships on their resumes, so it isn't like they can't recruit or strategize.
This is all discussion for another time, of course.
