What is there to discuss?
1. Drag Dawson's name through the mud without knowing all the facts of the case.
2. Attempt to prove Dodge is somehow responsible.
I don't see any valid reason for a discussion.

The discussion would be how this situation relates to the rest of the team. And whether we have any active players involved in the situation. Not necessarily as active agents in Dawson's death... But in the circumstances (and/or similar scenarios) that led to his death.
If this board had a ninjaface equivalent, I'd have put one after that last sentence.
The reason it came up here is because this is a far lower traffic board that's populated by intelligent, reasonable fans.
So, here's my semi-hypothetical question: Suppose that, just like the drug test situation, one story leads to some shocking revelations about other players on the team. Not on the same scale, but with potentially a much bigger ultimate impact.
If the 2008 news story of "North Texas is a team full of drug users" morphs into a 2009 story of "North Texas is a team with some drug dealers on it"... What happens to our program?
Not an attempt to slander Germaine, who I think was a good kid even though he made some stupid decisions. And leaving anything relating to Dodge completely out of it.
For discussion here only... If this isn't the end of this story, what are we in for?

I'm not sure I understand your ninja faced explanation of the discussion. I might just be desensitized by my high school/early college experiences but the only part of this story that really shocks/troubles me is the senseless loss of life. If your definition of drug dealer is broad enough to include those purchasing/selling any amount of marijuana I'd estimate we've got 20+ on the team.

All I know is what I'm told, and I don't know enough to gauge many of those people and their perspective on what constitutes a drug dealer, or what "involvement" consists of. But my understanding is that whether or not we've heard the last revelations of this story publicly or not, there's significantly more to the situation.
I'm not trying to be cryptic, I just honestly can't tell for sure exactly what the hell is/was going on. If I did know all the details, I'd probably just shut up about things entirely.
I didn't mean to suggest that Dawson's death wasn't troubling if that's how it came off. And I'm not trying to say that he was some narcotics kingpin or anything like that. Again, I really liked the guy as a player and I've never heard anything to make me believe he was a bad person, just one who made some bad choices.
The more I think about this thread (particularly my shortsighted contributions to it), the more I think the whole thing should probably just be moderated out of existence. It seems like anything going forward from here would fall under the first category that Buford wanted to avoid, if I haven't unintentionally taken things there already.

It is food for thought. Though I won't contribute to it - I won't be deleting it either because we haven't ever had to do that here.
