I got my first win as a head coach tonight over the Pied Piers of Hamlin. We got out early, then gave up the lead as we have perfected already this season, and then with the score tied and 10 seconds left, turned it over and gave up a layup. I called time with 6 seconds left. We ran our full court game winner, but they deflected it out of bounds on our half, I called a play for our best player (a 5'6 sophomore PG), and we ran it and he had a good look but missed. The rebound was tipped, and one of our juniors got the rebound and went back up and put it in right at the buzzer. The refs talked about it for a little while and then said that it was before the buzzer and counted, so we went to OT.

I had one player sick, two players fouled out, and four others with four fouls, but we toughed it out and pulled away in the OT period behind our little PG, who started making plays. It was a dramatic first win, but I was glad more for the kids. They have worked hard and we have given up double digit second half leads the last two games before tonight. They did what they had to do to win, and for a young team, that was a big first step.

Congrats big guy! When you get to 5 or 6 hundred we can say we knew ya when.
