Adler sent this to me on GMG... I REALLY like the sound of this guy's game. Sounds like a perfect substitute for Tramiel.

But signing him is pretty much assuming that Alonzo Edwards is going to be a bust. Would we pull Edwards' offer?

Says it's between Arkansas, Murray State, South Alabama, and us, with Penn State (thanks to the transfers) making a late run at him.

6'8", 240 pounds (1" and 10 lbs bigger than Tramiel as a senior). Averaged 23 ppg and 14 rpg.

A refined back to the basket game, as well as quickness and athleticism to work around bigger opponents

I don't think you should every pull an offer when there has not been a coaching change. Besides JJ apparently sees something in Edwards, he was signed in the middle of his rather questionable juco season. I do however, believe if he can get a big the apparently quality of McCombs he does and goes for a big success next year and worries about more guards next year if he is still here.

It does seem that there are a lot of very good prospects for NT's last ship. I wonder what the rules are regarding players going off ship and remaining on the team. Suppose player x is willing to pay his own way a year, could his scholarship be used. I doubt it because it seems ripe for abuse.

I agree, I was just asking because it would be odd to double up on the same position, especially when both are JUCOs and half their eligibility would be gone after the logjam season.

I don't want us to renege on Edwards, because that's not a good way to handle our business. But it would be unfortunate to sign a guy that seems to play the same position in a style that seems much better suited for our immediate needs. Edwards is already in the boat (not signed, but committed) and it's not right to throw him overboard. But I also don't think we can pass on a guy like McCombs.

I wonder if Edwards would change his mind if McCombs agreed to come, too. Given that he's not signed yet, why would Edwards knowingly enter this situation? If McCombs joins the team, Edwards is probably not going to have much (if any) shot at playing time in the first year (behind McCombs, Odufuwa, Hogans, Holmen, and Spencer) and then he'd have to fight for minutes with McCombs, Hogans, and Holmen in his Senior year. It's not like Edwards doesn't have any options; there were other schools after him.

Could be interesting.

Not so sure how many of those other options would be still open to Edwards. I guess there could always be the dreaded talk were a commit or signee is told that the university will honor their word but it is very doubtful that the player can compete at this level and their future would be much better at another institutional.

As far as some that seem to wonder if Knox's scholarship will not be renewed, you never know but I've heard they expect him to develop into a very good player. Tall players at the Belt level are nearly always projects but it is time for NT to hit on one. Masters, Barnett, and Howerton all contributed to some degree but it would be nice to have one be a real difference maker. Knox seems to me to be better coordinated and a better shooter than the others, he looks like he just needs more fire and confidence.
