Hey I love The Pourhouse.

But isn't that place a bit small for an event that I would think (maybe) several hundred folks might want to attend?

It's Sunday....most people are off work. There's loads of Mean Green spirit right now. And the best we can do is a place that might seat...what 70? 80?

And when you have the players, coaches, athletic staff and university officials who will be there....that's probably 30-40 people right there.

I can't imagine....that in this great technological age.....we couldn't hook up a big screen TV in the Super Pit or some other place where everyone could sit and enjoy this.

They have the media room , but I think they will use every T.V in the place. I agree it's pretty small for something like this. I'm thinking a few hundred would want to come out to something like this , but it's UNT so my expecatations are low. Students probably won't come since most can't drink , but ya never know. I'm getting there asap. It starts at 5 pm , but I'll be there around 3 pm

My point is that everyone would want to be in the Media Room....where the players and coaches will be. If you're gonna watch it on another TV in the restaurant....you might as well stay home.

Maybe they thought no students would come because it's Spring Break. Anyway, The Pourhouse is great.....great food, great staff.
I just think a bigger spot....would have been the right move.

I've been to a couple watching parties and coaches shows at the Pourhouse and while the media room is badass.... being stuck in the restaurant area blows absolute ass. Unless I can be there 2 hours early I don't even effort at attendance anymore. It's also a little expensive for the college/recently graduated broke ass crowd.

I came home on a high from the tournament. And I was really looking forward to the Selection Show event.

But the word today that the event is going to be in such a small place....has been a big buzzkill. And to my pal NT03.....buddy, I don't have time nor do I care to be there for 3 and a half hours, for a show that will last an hour.

So they've taken me....a fan who wanted to be there....and now I'm leaning toward just watching it at home.

As soon as the tournament was over, I started reaching out to former employers to see if anyone wanted me to assist in covering the event. Most of the places I've worked in town don't have anyone who really follows college basketball, much less North Texas, and back in 2007 I was feeding most of the questions and identifying people to interview (I still remember dragging a camera guy over to talk to Michael Sturns, who couldn't stop staring at the floor nervously). I was desperate to get myself a spot on the other side of the rope so I wouldn't be stuck in that huge crowd.

Now, I'm probably not going at all. Not to work, not to watch. I love the Pourhouse and I try to eat there as much as I can when I come up for games... But I don't think it's a good venue for something like this. Porch, main dining area, media room... Why split people up? Hell... Do it in the Lyceum. Theater seating for everyone, a stage for JJ and RV and company to address the crowd, right in the heart of campus. And everyone enjoys the community spirit.

I wish CBS were televising us this year, because it would have forced us to have it somewhere else. I love the restaurant, I'm thrilled that we're having a party and watching is relevant for us... But the NCAA selection and the Pourhouse are two great tastes that don't taste great together.
