I added a new section to the avatar list - Rival Schools. UTA is the sole logo right now.

The metroplex is NOT a college basketball "town", so I don't think this series will bring any more attention to the schools than any other game. The only way to break into relevance in the Dallas Maverick dominated D/FW media consciousness is to beat Big 12 South teams on at least a semi-regular basis, and/or make the big dance. I'm not holding my breath. We need to make NT basketball relevant on campus before we can start to aim our ambitions south.

The most this series can do for either school is provide a home game with moderately better attendance.

That may be true, but for ease of fan and team team travel - it is just a natural series that should be continued.

Any sort of local series that will get the interest of more fans is a good thing. Of course, I also agree with Coach, that what we really need to do is get to the tournament. Hell, even the NIT.

With regard to Coach's comment, I don't think anybody claims a UTA-UNT series is the be-all, end-all. But, even a moderate uptick in interest from the average game is well worthwhile. Also, this game draws-out local TV cameras for the 10 p.m. news, whereas, an average game against SFA or somebody does not.

Of course, on top of this, you have cost containment which is critical for everybody.

Historically, these were very competitive, exciting games where anything could happen. There was always extra "electricity" at UTA for these games. In fact, the noise could be deafening. UTA and UNT are close-by, peer institutions, and one really loves to beat the other.
